Gasmine Honoree

Gasmine Honore is a thirty-six-year-old mother of two daughters. When interviewing Gasmine, our translator asked her for her name in Creole and we were surprised that she answered in English. Our team was so excited to be able to directly communicate with a member of the community, and Gasmine was ecstatic to practice her English.

Gasmine spent fourteen years in school, much longer than the average person in the area. After her schooling, Gasmine was hired as a translator for a nearby non-governmental organization (NGO) where she said she had the chance to meet a lot of interesting people and practice her English. Gasmine is no longer a translator and lives in an area where there aren't many people who speak English and, consequently, she has lost some of her knowledge.

Her kids go to school everyday, and have developed the same love for languages as their mother. Gasmine values the peace her home brings and enjoys being able to provide her children with education. Gasmine is originally from Port-au-Prince and most of her family is still there. She now lives in Nolivos with her two children, whom she raised alone. Gasmine's strength allowed her to put her kids through school while still making a life for herself. When asked if we could take a picture of Gasmine she quickly fixed her hair and posed for the camera. Gasmine added brightness to all of our days.
